Hi all, new to this fed soup forum. I have seen some threads regarding the ATF IOI position but they are all from years ago. Wondering if anyone is going through the process now? I applied and did the panel interview all within a month, have not heard anything since (been about two weeks). It sounds like they are stream lining the process due to not being able to hire for the last 3 years. Just curious what everyone's experience has been and what I could possibly be expecting. Thanks in advance!

Hello. Pretty much the same deal here. I interviewed on 3/23 and am now in wait mode. From what I read on old threads, the next thing to look for is the invitation to complete the background check. Hopefully I'll move on, but I can't say the panel interview went as well as I would have hoped. I also noticed they recently posted another announcement for applicants with Schedule A disabilities. Not sure if that will slow things down for those that applied to the first announcement or not. Good luck!

I interviewed on 3/26, I went into the interview thinking I was well prepared and they threw some questions I was not prepared for. Hoping I still was able to pull it out and move on to the next steps. Not sure if they gave you anymore information than me but I was told they were hiring 78 new IOIs across the country and the process would be a lot faster than normal. They also said they were hiring in waves, the first wave was hired in January I believe and those folks started training April 1 and that the next two trainings would July 1 and September 1. Fingers crossed we get that next email!

I heard similar information. I see you're in Ohio, did you interview in Columbus? I was told they were hiring 4 in Cleveland, that's where I'm hoping for.

Yup same situation, from Cleveland and drove down to Columbus for the interview. They told me the same thing that they were hiring 4 in Cleveland.

They are definitely fast tracking things. You can go from application to hired in less than a year. A lot of people are not getting their first choice of duty station, so be aware of that. If you’re not willing to move, you may have to turn it down

Curious about the payscale, did they give you any insight during interviews? Their information packet says they hire GS-9 with a Masters. The announcement says GS-7 and doesn't list anything about a GS-9. Curious if they are actually bringing anyone on as a 9? Also if you get brought on as a 7 how does the progression to 13 work?

As far as I know, only GS-7s were brought on this time. They also brought on 5s in the past. The ladder is 7,9,11,12,13 over 4 years.

I guess I'm confused how you would progress 5 grades in 4 years. Are you saying at the beginning of year 5 you would be a 13 if brought on as a 7?

Correct. Hired as a 7, promoted to 9 beginning of year 2, 11 year 3, 12 year 4, and 13 at beginning of year 5.

So it'll take you 4 years to get to 13 if you're performing satisfactorily.

I received a qualified but not referred email yesterday, unfortunately.

Hi ,

Question about the interview , do you have to do a essay and do you have to pass a math test the same day of the interview ? I read some forums that mention passing a math test and essay .

Can somebody that already passed the interview tell me if they still doing this ? Thank you

I interviewed in February. I had an essay, but no math test. Can't say that's the same for everyone though.

Hmmm that's interesting. I received a tentative offer but I'm not sure if I'll go through with it all. IOI is a great gig but I'd have to drop down from a GS 12 to a 7. No one can really tell me if they would match pay, or if they max you out in steps at 7, 9, and 11 until you get back to your previous rate of pay. My current position is crazy stressful and I never really get free time with my family, so it's tough to figure out what I'm going to do.

I was started at 7 step 10 and was told that I would recover my pay as I progressed up the ladder. In my case 9 step 10 and then 11 step 9. I didn't get anyone to answer that question until after my firm offer was signed so I feel your pain. However, don't take my word for it, it may be case by case.

That would certainly be more doable then being a 7/1, or 7/10 then promoted to a low 9.

I'm curious did your local office give you that info, or did that come from the IOI Hr reps in DC? I'm wondering if that's standard, or a local office decision.

Now the big question lol, did they give that to you in writing?
